The 3 Sortlisted Assualt Rifles for Indian Army

Three Indian corporations are shortlisted by the govt for the acquisition of 72,400 assault rifles and 93,895 CQB carbines for the Indian Army, and currently look the ultimate bidding.


The companies which had responded to the Request For Proposal (RFP) issued earlier this year for ‘in service’ rifles, carbines and LMG and joined hands with foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) participating in the programme for manufacturing and providing service support for these small arms will be from India Only.According to Sources the ministry of defence (MoD) has received compliant bids from 3 companies for assault rifles and 4 companies for CQB carbines. However, only 1 company  IWI, Israel, had bid for LMG.
“The RFPs were given to 12 companies out of which after extensive trials, only three companies with the OEMs have been shortlisted.
The Companies are
 1. Punj Lloyd working with IWI, Israel(For LMG);
 2. Kanpur-based MKU with Thales, Australia,
 3. and Caracal of UAE; and
 4. Reliance Armaments with S&T Motiv of South Korea ,” 

A nine-member committee led by one star officer had visited all these companies located in Australia, South Korea, the US, Israel and the UAE for the evaluation of carbines and assault rifles and had conducted both physical and firing evaluation to verify the lethality, reliability and accuracy of carbines and assault rifles.According to sources, the committee will be giving its final report by the early September and the commericial bidsare likely opened till this year.

1. Caracal's CAR-816/7
The CAR 817-AR is  a center-fire, gas operated, rotating bolt system machine rifle, having 7.62 NATO Round . The CAR 817-AR is associate machine rifle designed for the high-end use of enforcement and military applications. 
The weapon available on the market is in semi-automatic and select fire configurations.


2.  Kanpur-based MKU with Thales's F-90


F90’s have a bullpup style and open design which permit it to be designed for a large vary of mission profiles. The rifle has associate overall length of 700 mm and a weight of 3kg(without mazagine). It is also equipped with a 407mm-long fastened and lighter barrel.
This assault rifles provides the troops with superior unwholesomeness, very high-accuracy and reliableness throughout close quarters combat, moreover as longer vary shooting. The rifle is additionally capable of operative very different and  difficult environments.


3.Reliance Armaments with S&T Motiv's Daewoo K-11



K11 is equipped with laser range finder as well as ballistics computer system which helps the Soldier to easily find the distance of target and can launch an airburst shell or fire bullet depending upon the situation.
K11 also comes with goggle system with digital display which is very effective during NIght operation.
The weapon is compatible with standard 20- or 30-round 5.56×45mm NATO magazines, and can hold upto 6-round magazines of 20 mm shells at a time.
However due to Heavy weight of the rifle it will be more difficult for this rifle to get inducted  in the Indian Army.
